Weekly Blog Roundup – October 19, 2019

This has been a rough week in our family, all three of us have been sick. Trying to keep up with everything has been a struggle but being in bed for 4 days has left me with a lot of time to read! I found lots of great blog posts this week.

Here are our Top 5 blog posts from this past week, in no particular order.

Home Gym Checklist

Jenn from Fit Bottomed Girls had a great piece on designing your own home gym. She put together a thorough and concise post entitled, Your Home Gym Checklist. Bill and I are always talking about putting together a home gym, and we have a couple of different spaces that would work well for it. I think this checklist will definitely help us draw up some plans. Plus, something that I hadn’t given particular thought to is the cleaning of the equipment and space. I love that she included that in the planning stages.

Of course, if a home gym isn’t in the cards for you, you can always check out our article on finding the perfect gym for your needs.

Healthy Recipe of the Week

As the weather cools down, even here in the desert, I am really looking forward to all of the wonderful soups and stews that I can make. I was excited to see one in particular from Alex over at Cast Iron Keto. The recipe is Keto Chicken Tikka Masala Soup and it looks amazing!

We love Chicken Tikka Masala and I was very intrigued that he turned it into a hearty soup. Because I was sick, I didn’t get a chance to try it this week but it’s on my meal plan for next week!

Living With Chronic Pain

I live with chronic pain. Losing weight and following a ketogenic diet have helped but days with no pain are extremely rare. I especially struggle with migraine headaches. The post, “So Are You in Pain Right Now?” by Anne from Anne Smiles really spoke to me.

She shares how she went from not revealing her chronic pain condition out of fear or shame to being able to share and to ask for needed accommodations. The point that I absolutely loved was that she has taken control over what she shares. She advocates for herself when needed and chooses what others are told about her pain and her needs.

That’s such a position of strength when invisible disabilities often lead to judgment and ridicule from people who don’t understand.

Avoiding Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis runs in my family and as I’ve gotten older I’ve found myself worrying about it more. I was really glad to see a great post from Erin Palinski-Wade with great tips for preventing it.

In Top Tips to Prevent Osteoporosis in Men and Women, she shares wonderful ways to stave off Osteoporosis. Some of them I knew, like adding weight-bearing exercises to your regular workouts and getting plenty of calcium and Vitamin D.

I did not know that prunes would help and I loved that not only did she recommend them but also offered suggestions for how to get them added to your meals. Let’s face it, prunes don’t have the best reputation for tastiness, so I was really excited that she included a recipe for a prune-containing trail mix that sounds really yummy!

Weekly Video Link

Finally, one of my favorite YouTube yogis, Adriene Mishler, of Yoga with Adriene had a great video this week. It is Yoga for Writers. The focus is to help get the creative juices flowing. I love that she stresses that you may come as you are, who you are, and where you are in your journey is perfectly wonderful.

I think a really great accompaniment to this yoga floor is Bill’s Blogging Guide. It’s a great chance to take that creative energy and channel it into the blog you’ve been meaning to start!

These were my favorite blog posts from this last week. If you have something that you would like to share for consideration in our Weekly Blog Roundup, let us know on social media!
