Best Keto Documentaries To Binge This Weekend

Are you looking to snuggle up and binge watch something educational about health and fitness? Sure, I’ll admit that when I say it like that it doesn’t sound so awesome. Maybe keto documentaries don’t sound great but these are all very entertaining.

We don’t watch a lot of television but we manage to catch most of the best health documentaries when they come out. Below are some of our favorites that either discuss the keto diet or are related. Each of them are guaranteed to make you think and might just change how you look at food and nutrition.

Keto Documentaries on Amazon Prime Video

If you have an Amazon Prime account there are a lot of very good documentaries on the keto diet that you can watch for free. Below are some of the better ones that come highly recommended. Note: All links to Amazon are affiliate links so if you purchase anything we will get a commission.

Fat: A Documentary (Amazon Link)

Health expert Vinnie Tortorich exposes the history behind myths and lies regarding healthy eating, fat and weight loss.

Carb Loaded (Amazon Link)

So what exactly is this documentary all about? In short, it’s a journey of discovery, to find out the reasons behind the enormous spike in various forms of diabetes, over the last three decades, and what can be done about it. Oh…I get it another movie about how we eat too much and we’re all going to die. Not really. Well, yes…as a culture we do certainly eat too much. But more importantly it’s what we’ve been eating that may be the biggest problem. Refined and processed foods, especially processed carbohydrates have become a staple of our culture, and we are reaping the consequences.

Fed Up (Amazon Link)

For the past 30 years, everything we thought we knew about food and exercise is dead wrong. FED UP is the film the food industry doesn’t want you to see. From Katie Couric, Laurie David (Oscar winning producer of AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH) and director Stephanie Soechtig, FED UP will change the way you eat forever.

King Corn (Amazon Link)

Ian Cheney and Curt Ellis, best friends from college on the east coast, move to the heartland to learn where their food comes from. With the help of friendly neighbors, genetically modified seeds, and powerful herbicides, they plant and grow a bumper crop of America’s most-productive, most-subsidized grain on one acre of Iowa soil. But when they try to follow their pile of corn into the food system, what they find raises troubling questions about how we eat–and how we farm.

THAT SUGAR FILM is one man’s journey to discover the bitter truth about sugar. Through this entertaining and informative journey, Damon highlights some of the issues that plague the sugar industry, and where sugar lurks on supermarket shelves. The Skinny On Obesity Series

Sugar: The Bitter Truth

Robert H. Lustig, MD, UCSF Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Endocrinology, explores the damage caused by sugary foods. He argues that fructose (too much) and fiber (not enough) appear to be cornerstones of the obesity epidemic through their effects on insulin.

Why You Got Fat

For decades we’ve been told gaining and losing weight is all about the calories. Just one little problem: the research says otherwise. Diabetics undergo dramatic weight changes when they adjust their insulin levels — and so do you. Your diet determines how much insulin your body will produce over time. From the documentary “Fat Head.”

Cereal Killers I and II

Honorable Mention: A User’s Guide to Cheating Death on Netflix

This is an excellent series and it won’t be on Netflix very much longer. Watch it while you can. Timothy Caulfield cuts through a lot of the nonsense surrounding health and wellness and makes it very entertaining. We binge watched it when it was first out and will do it again.

Update: This has been removed which really sucks. I’ll update this if I ever see it available anywhere.

A Quick Word On Documentaries

Now that I have gotten you hooked on keto documentaries I should leave you with a word of warning. Documentaries are all written and produced in a way to make their point of view as compelling as possible. They are very good at it too. Take the claims presented with a grain of salt and always look for more information.

I don’t feel like any of the documentaries above are dishonest or unfair in the information they presented. Still, that advice applies to everything and it would be unfair to neglect mentioning it just because I am sympathetic to these keto documentaries.
