Mid-Year Resolution Review

Can you believe that 2019 is already half over? It seems like just the other day we were celebrating a new year and making resolutions. One of the keys to successfully reaching your goals is to periodically review your progress and make the necessary changes, so we decided to do a mid-year resolution review.

A little over 6 months ago we published our 2019 Resolutions for this blog and our personal lives. Let’s go ahead and review each one honestly and see how we are doing and what we need to do to get back on track. If you made any resolutions now would be a good time to do the same yourself.

Blogging Resolutions

There is no point going through these one-by-one. I’m going to be honest and just say straight out that I have really dropped the ball on the blog recently. Between health problems, emergency surgery, and a long recovery I let the blog slip.

I’m not going to apologize too much. I needed the time to focus on myself and that is important. I will be back to work now that I’m recovered so you can start to expect things to be back on track soon.

Personal Resolutions

Cut out Caffeine (Poor)

We have been pretty successful at cutting back on soda but that just increased our coffee consumption. So overall a positive change but not much progress towards our actual goal. Starting this week our plan is to cut out caffeine after lunch and then slowly wean down from there. Overall we are pretty confident that we can accomplish this resolution.

Start a Weight Lifting Program (Good)

We have actually done pretty good here when surgery hasn’t interfered with working out. We are currently putting in time at the gym 3 times a week and we’re both seeing some good gains As I write this my legs are still feeling sore from yesterday’s squats. I have implemented a really good recovery program post-workout that’s helping too.

Cut Back on Electronics (Poor)

We have made very little progress on this. We moved the television out of our bedroom and only have the XBox in the office. Still, we could do a lot better. Now that summertime is here we will be outside more so hopefully, that helps. There’s nothing like a mid-year resolution review to get you motivated to get back on track!

Begin and End Each Day With Yoga (Poor)

We haven’t done well on this resolution at all. Surgeries and recovery have made it difficult to get into a habit and our work/sleep schedule makes morning yoga really difficult. We should be doing a lot better at working in yoga with our schedule. Starting tonight we are going to refocus on our nightly sessions. We are confident that we can make at least that much of the resolution work.

Bonus, if you are looking for a great YouTube series for yoga, we can’t recommend Yoga with Adriene enough!

Get 7-8 Hours of Sleep Each Night (Great)

We are doing pretty good on this resolution. Most weeknights we are getting about 8 hours of sleep. If only that was uninterrupted though. We recently adopted our 4th (yes 4th) dog. He’s still a puppy and needs let out several times a night. He’s a great boy and as he gets older he will need out less and less.

Start Going on Date Nights (Good)

We have been doing pretty good on this resolution as well. The boy is 12 and several times a month we have been able to get away alone. It’s not been anything like a real date so far but being able to sit down at a meal together has been wonderful.

How Are We Doing Overall?

Going through the resolutions we made for 2019 for this mid-year resolution review was really eye-opening. There are a lot of things that we wanted to do that we are falling short on, and several that we are making good progress on. After doing this review we feel like we can be successful in reaching our goals by the end of the year.

How are you doing on your resolutions so far? If you need help or support we would love to help you out. We would love to hear how you are doing. Let us know in the comments below or on social media.
