Blogger Interview With Melissa Blevins
I started my blog, Perfection Hangover, to help women who aspired to stay at home/work from home by teaching how to manage money, pay off debt, and start a legit side hustle (without peddling shakes).
In 2015, I quit Beachbody coaching and was blacklisted and treated like complete garbage from the people who preached “family” and “team”. When I decided that multi-level marketing wasn’t for me, they all blocked me and it helped me realize that so many others had probably experienced similar feelings.
My #1 post on the blog is about Why I Quit Beachbody Coaching. Coming in at a close second is an article with 17 former coach stories explaining how they were targeted and tricked into believing that multi-level marketing (Beachbody, specifically) was their ticket to freedom from the 9-5.
Why Perfection Hangover? I named the blog this because I struggled with my own crippling perfectionism and the resulting hangover from realizing that there is no such thing as perfection. I grew up 50/50 in the Oklahoma and Texas panhandles in a 3 bedroom trailer house with my blended my family of nine. Our living room (which also served as 3 of my siblings’ bedroom) was set up to entertain with wicker patio furniture because we couldn’t afford a sofa.
My goal is that no one ever has to live under those conditions.
I’m on a mission to help women take control and rewrite their story at Perfection Hangover, where I share the “sober truth about money, blogging, and business”.
Even though my Beachbody post is #1, I believe one of my most valuable posts details 76 Legit Ways to Make Money on the Side because I want to help people find ways to make more money and achieve their financial goals (without peddling shakes and/or makeup)
Dreamer – I’m always thinking far into the future and imagining life at retirement and even life after I reach some personal goals, professional goals, and geographical goals (moving near the water!)
After I quit Beachbody, I found an online personal trainer, Lukas Duncan, who is a former bodybuilder. He helped me lose 25 pounds. I focus on strength training, cardio (even though it’s the devil), and eating 5-6 small, healthy meals a day.
I eat a lot of chicken and ground turkey. I follow my meal plan for breakfast, lunch, and snacks and usually eat dinner with the family. At nighttime, I keep carbs to a minimum and keep my portions in check.
Don’t ask “What’s in it for me?” but serve with a grateful heart, helping others, and you will receive far more than you expect.
I keep my goals front of mind constantly, and I remember where I came from.
Perfectionism – I tell myself everyday to just do my best, serve with a grateful heart, and it’s okay if I mess up once in awhile!
My $3 Budgeting Notebook, Scribd App (for audiobooks), and my Bible
My Papa – He passed away two years ago, but that man was a hard worker and helped my Mom out of so many disasters without judging or questioning her. He was an incredible man.
Create a course and/or ebook to sell by January 2020.
The most productive part of my day is in the morning. But my favorite time is spent winding down with my husband at the end of a long day.
I love fishing, Florida Gators football, and I’m a beach girl trapped in the midwest so anytime I can go to Florida or South Carolina, I’m happy!
My YouTube channel is quickly growing, and I am working on creating more and more video content! I’d love for you to check it out!
