11 + 2 Lazy Weight Loss Hacks

You don’t have to spend hours in the gym or radically change your diet to lose weight. Sure, those things help a lot but here are some nice lazy weight loss hacks that don’t require much effort. The best thing is that these hacks can be started immediately.

If you were to pick some of these and start implementing them into your life you would start to see results. If you combined these with a healthy diet and some exercise the results will be even greater. Summer and I do almost all of these and can attest to their benefits.

11 Lazy Weight Loss Hacks

Each of these weight loss life hacks are as simple as possible to do. Most of them just require small adjustments to your normal routines. Over time these minor tweaks can lead to major health and fitness changes.

Don’t Drink Your Calories

It is surprising how quickly the calories from drinks add up. It’s not just soda and sugary beverages either. You also have to be careful with healthier drinks like flavored coffees or smoothies. For example, the small smoothie from McDonald’s has around 220 calories.

As much as possible replace your normal drink with something that has no calories. Green tea, black coffee, or water are the best choices but even diet drinks will help you lose weight. Of course, artificial sweeteners have their own risks but what are you going to do.

Indulge, in Moderation

Going cold turkey and cutting out your favorite snacks isn’t going to work long term. In fact, there is a well-documented rebound effect whenever you deprive yourself for too long. What works best is to either replace whatever your craving with a healthier alternative or to limit the portion size.

This is kind of a best of both worlds solution. You still get to enjoy the foods you want to eat while still losing weight. Over time if you keep cutting back you may find it possible to completely cut out unhealthy foods entirely.

Get More Sleep

This is my favorite lazy weight loss hack! Research has shown a direct connection between not sleeping enough and gaining weight. One of the reasons is you have less willpower when you are tired. That makes it more likely that you will make bad decisions about food and exercise.

So get enough sleep. If you are one of the millions of people who have trouble sleeping we have written a couple articles that can help. The best two are natural sleep tips and foods that help you sleep through the night.

Eat Slower

Chances are you have heard somewhere that it takes 20 minutes for your brain to know your full. That’s actually pretty accurate. What that means is that if you eat slowly you are less likely to eat past the point of being full. When I first started to do this I would practice putting my utensils down between each bite.

Drink More Water

Before and after each meal drinking a glass of water will help you eat less. If you get hungry between meals drinking a glass of water can help to put that off. If you can get in the habit of drinking water throughout the day you will find that you are naturally eating less.

If water is too boring for you adding a calorie-free flavoring or lemon will help. There are a lot of benefits to drinking water other than suppressing your appetite making this one of the better weight loss hacks on the list.

Use Smaller Plates

Of all the lazy weight loss hacks on this list, this is the one that seems silliest. It might be the psychology of seeing a full plate, or just how much food you get at once. Whatever it is, studies have shown that this will actually work.

I will admit I have never actually tried this to see if it works. All our plates are the same size. I’m interested if this has worked for you. If you have tried this please leave a comment below.

Plan Meals in Advance

How many times have you ordered pizza or picked up something on the way home because you didn’t have anything set out for dinner? It used to happen to us all the time. We have mostly solved that problem by doing all of our meal planning and prep work in advance.

Every week make a meal plan and do all your shopping for the whole week at once. When you get home portion out the meat, process the cheese and vegetables, and package everything up for the week. This makes cooking meals faster and you will eat better.

Eat at Home

Eating out from time to time is a wonderful treat but you are more likely to eat more calories when you’re not eating at home. Whenever possible try to avoid eating out, especially for lunch.

Cut Carbs

I’m not saying you have to go all keto and stop eating bread but any carbs you can cut will help you lose weight. Fats and proteins tend to be more filling so the more of those you eat the better. Another tip is to buy low carb snacks whenever possible. If you want to go all in read this post to learn everything you need to know about keto. We both are on the keto diet and the results are very good.

Become Mindful of Your Body

My wife and I do a lot of intermittent fasting. This means we often go 12-16 hours without eating. Practicing mindfulness was one of the keys to success for me. By paying attention to my body I have gotten better at telling when I’m actually hungry. A lot of times when we feel hungry its either boredom or we have trained ourselves to feel hungry at certain times.

I can’t go into mindfulness here but if you are interested in learning I have a great introduction to mindfulness meditation blog post you should read. If you don’t think meditation is your thing I have also put together a list of guided meditations that could help you get started.

Cut out Alcohol

Depending on if you drink this one might not sound like much fun. Still, if you are looking for lazy weight loss hacks we have to include cutting back on alcohol. They don’t call it a beer gut for nothing you know.

If you want to drink and still want to lose weight hard alcohol is your best choice. It tends to have far fewer calories than your other choices. Totally avoid fruity mixed drinks, they almost always have a lot of sugar. Be aware that even if you are just hammering back whiskey shots straight, any alcohol at all will slow your weight loss.

2 Less Lazy Weight Loss Hacks 🙁

Unlike the other 11 weight loss hacks these are not near as lazy. Still, they are pretty simple and can be done very easily. You could ignore all the other hacks and just do these two. They might make you late to work, but you shouldn’t be too tired when you get there.

Park Far From The Door

You know how everyone tries to find the best parking spot? Just do the opposite instead. Find a nice convenient spot out further away and walk. You will log a few more steps and as a nice bonus finding parking is really easy. Depending on how many errands you have you can easily get an extra thousand steps in without much more effort.

Take the Stairs

I’m not going to lie, this one isn’t very lazy at all. I did want to include it because it is the kind of life change that can really impact your fitness. Climbing stairs is a great exercise and a great cardio workout.

Whenever you have the choice, choose to take the stairs. If you can’t handle the stairs the whole way get off a floor or two early and walk from there. Sure, it will suck at first but it gets easier.
