8 Surprising Foods To Avoid On Keto

I started on the keto diet on March 17th, 2018 and it has been very good to me. I am no longer pre-diabetic, I’ve lost 82 lbs, and my lab markers are greatly improved. It has been so successful that my whole family will be switching to the keto diet after Christmas. Since I’ve become more outspoken about my success I have gotten a lot of questions about the diet. There are a lot of misconceptions about what keto is and what it is not. A lot of those misconceptions are about the foods we eat or avoid. That is the misconceptions I am dealing with a lot right now…

    Running With Shin Splints

Have you ever experienced shin splints while running? If you have then you know how painful and frustrating they are. Some people are lucky and only have some tightness and mild pain. Others, like me, have extreme pain that can make even walking nearly impossible. Recently I have been trying to get back into running but I am having the same problem I always do. After about half a mile I start getting severe shin splint pain. Stretching and warming up makes it better but it’s not enough to get in a full run. This time I am determined to fix the problem once and for all. I’ve been doing…

2018 Ultimate Christmas Gift Guide Roundup

Do you know what it’s like to struggle with good gift ideas? Trust me, it sucks. Now that almost everyone I buy for is an adult it’s just getting harder. Luckily many of my friends and family are into fitness. That’s why I LOVE when my favorite blogs put out their Christmas gift guide. This year I thought it would be helpful if I shared all of the gift guides from my favorite bloggers. I have avoided putting in guides from businesses. I don’t know about you but I would much rather take gift recommendations from a real person than a business. Hopefully, these guides help you as much as…

Hello everyone. As you know OthFit.com is still pretty new and we are still looking for additional ways to connect with our audience. Well, I just wanted to announce that we have recently joined the BlogLovin platform. I should point out that even though I get a bit mushy about how much I love BlogLovin this isn’t a sponsored or affiliate post. I get nothing if if you sign up or not. I’m just honestly excited and wanted to share. What is BlogLovin? That was my first question too. That might be because I’m getting older and out of touch but maybe you have the same question. To put it…

    Thanksgiving Dinner On Keto

This year, like almost every year since I’ve been on my own, I am making a huge Thanksgiving dinner. My Grandmother was from Texas and her Thanksgiving dinners were simply amazing but they are absolutely loaded with carbs and sugar, you know, the stuff that tastes great! Because I’ve had such success on keto I wanted to adapt her recipes where possible so that my family can enjoy the deliciousness that she passed down to me and I can indulge a bit without derailing my progress. I thought it would be neat to do a post with what I’m making from my Grandmother and how I will change it, what…

    Gratitude

I always love this time of year. Really, the days between October 31st and February 15th are what I live for. When the weather gets colder and the sky looks sharper I start feeling different inside. Memories of childhood at my grandparents’ farm, falling in love with my husband when we started dating, playing the leaves with our children were all made during the fall and winter and I cherish them. This flood of memories causes me to keenly feel gratitude during this time. I change my mantra from things I can do and make it things I’m grateful for. I really feel that this helps me stave off the…

    Health Benefits Of Intermittent Fasting

Back in March, I started doing intermittent fasting(IF). Since then I have gotten many questions from friends and co-workers about it. Most of the questions are about the health benefits and why I started fasting. When I started I didn’t put much thought into it, it was just something I wanted to try out. I only did a little research before jumping in. Since then I have read a lot about the health benefits and I now feel great. In this article, I am going to give you a short introduction to intermittent fasting and its health benefits. At the bottom of the article, you can find some more resources…

    2018 Christmas Book Wishlist

Every year for Christmas our family makes a big deal about giving and receiving books. We are all big readers so to make it easier for everyone to know what to get each other we put together book lists. Sometimes these are books we have been wanting to read, sometimes they are beloved old books we want to reconnect with. This year I thought it would be fun to share my book list with you. I do need to warn you that this is my complete actual list so not everything is related to health and fitness. Still, I am excited to get into each one of these books and…

Stress And Cognition – You Can Change Your Day

A recent study from Penn State’s Center for Healthy Aging has shown that when people think about their day being stressful in the morning, before it even starts, they have negative impacts on their working memories. With a reduction in working memory people may be more prone to make mistakes as they do their work or studying, they may have a more difficult time focusing on tasks or conversations, and these can be amplified as we age and our cognitive performance levels naturally decline. About the Study Researchers gathered 240 adults from diverse ethnic, social, and financial backgrounds. The study was 2 weeks in length and each day the participants…

5 Ways To Love The Body You Have

There is a very strong connection between the body and the mind. We hear about it all of the time, there are books, articles, documentaries, entire disciplines devoted to teaching us about this connection and how to strengthen it. And yet, although this is seemingly common knowledge, many of us still struggle with a basic building block of a strong body/mind connection, loving the body we have. It may not seem to be important to have some self-love for your thighs or stomach, especially when you are working to change the way they look and feel. But, I promise that finding love for your body with all of its imperfections,…
